In the continuing Exercise of Academic Excellence, Cebu’s First University and CHED Fully Autonomous Institution University of the Visayas, College of Nursing enters into another year of Strategic Partnership with country’s largest school based review provider, Professional Review Network, Inc. to be the exclusive review provider of Competency based Review program for college of nursing for the academic year 2011-2012.

The University of the Visayas College of Nursing and the Professional Review Network, Inc. (PRN) signed a memorandum of agreement for another year of working partnership in providing a competency-based quality review for the graduating nursing students. This partnership aims not only to increase the passing percentage of the college, but also to provide trainings and seminars to make these future nurses be globally competitive. Present during the signing includes Ms. Jackee Gullas Weckman, Vice-President for Academic Affairs together with Dean , Mr. Resty L. Picardo, Dean of College of Nursing and Ms. Tricia Ivy Gullas, Academic Coordinator representing the University of the Visayas while on the side of PRN present during the signing was Mr. Tedeoro Villanueva, Vice Chairman of Millennium PRN, Mr. Justiniano “Justin” Medel, Branch OIC- Cebu, Mr. Steven Andrada, VP Finance, Mr. Warren Maranan, VP for Operations, and Ms. Lori Lara, VP for Marketing.
The partnership between the two academic institutions started 3 years ago when the college searched for potential review center that will give quality review program for their students. University of the Visayas opened its College of Nursing way back 1974. It opened with 120 pioneering students headed by Mrs. Lourdes Fernan as the first Dean of the College. Since then, the college produces top performing students with a rate that is above the national passing rate as cited by the Commission on Higher Education. The current dean, Mr. Resty L. Picardo was challenged to upgrade their graduates to be globally competitive to meet the demand of quality nursing profession here and abroad. The current student’s curriculum is based on the CHED Memorandum Order No. 14, a new curriculum designed for the new batch of nursing students not just to be intellectual nurses but also to be clinically skillful nurses as well. This challenge was among one of the reasons why the UV Management entrusted Professional Review Network, Inc. PRN to provide not just curriculum based medium of instruction but also trainings, workshops, and seminars for the students.
